Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers an extensive range of digital services to 17,000 students and 2,000 staff. The ITS vision is to be an integral, valued business partner to the University, continually improving the level of service to student and staff communities.

As a member of the ITS senior leadership team, the Head of Technical Services reports directly to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for three strategic teams (total headcount is 22):

Cloud Platforms (Datacentre, Cloud, Automation)

Workspace Platforms (End User Computing)

Network Services (Network, Network Security & Telephony)

The Opportunity

  • As a member of the senior leadership group, play a major part in adopting & adapting best practices and embed them into the organisation with a clear focus on delivering and measuring outcomes.
  • Develop the University’s technical infrastructure and Cloud-based strategies ensuring the delivery of continuously improving & highly available services.
  • Influence the thinking of stakeholders on how they perceive current and future innovation and, where appropriate, make recommendations for new ways of thinking and better ways of doing things.
  • Provide a roadmap for the delivery and strategic vision of the University’s End User Computing environment ensuring services delivered are highly available, reliable, fit for purpose and secure.
  • Deputise for the CIO, participating in cross-departmental projects and contributing to University wide initiatives.
  • Oversee the delivery of technology and services by third party suppliers in a collaborative manner through business-focused SLAs.

Background and Experience

  • Extensive technical services experience in senior leadership roles with relevant functional business and process expertise appropriate to the role.
  • A strategic mindset to see ahead future possibilities, translating them into breakthrough strategies.
  • In depth experience of datacentre infrastructure, Cloud technologies, End User Computing, network and voice, and security applications.
  • Experience to include the management of outsourced support services and providers, leading merged IT teams and introducing shared services across the technology landscape.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, developing people to meet both their career ambitions and the University’s goals.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent), preferably in a Technology or Computer Science discipline.
