Crimson Sources Staff for Pall-Ex’s Logistics Software Transformation Plans

Pallex IT Recruitment Agency

The Customer

Pall-Ex Group stands out as an award-winning network of top-quality hauliers, offering premier palletised freight distribution services throughout the UK, Europe, and further afield.

From its central base in the Midlands of England, Pall-Ex has seen remarkable growth since starting in 1996. Today, it extends international logistics services and tailored solutions to numerous corporate accounts.

In 2018, Pall-Ex set a benchmark by becoming the first and only pallet network to be awarded the ISO 9001: 2015 for network-wide quality. Additionally, it secured the Customer Care Award at the Motor Transport Awards for the first time.

The Challenge

In 2017, the leadership at Pall-Ex recognised the limitations of their legacy logistics software. To maintain their high standard of customer service, they identified a need for a new, modern freight management system.

Dave Dunhill, the Director of Information Technology, spearheaded this new IT strategy. He envisioned the development of a new system, crafted in C#, which would enhance Pall-Ex’s delivery tracking systems, boosting visibility and reliability for both clients and staff.

To meet these technological goals, Pall-Ex’s board committed to investing in new technologies and expanding the IT department with skilled personnel. Dave sought to recruit a BI Developer, an IT Support Analyst, an IT Integration Manager, and a C# developer, focusing not only on technical skills but also on creativity, the ability to challenge existing norms, and drive innovation.

The Strategy

The recruitment campaign was initiated after thorough on-site consultations with the existing IT team to understand the specific requirements and expectations for the roles. The roles were promoted across various leading online platforms, with a comprehensive search conducted through an extensive database and personal networks, targeting individuals suited to the dynamic logistics sector.

The Customer’s Words

Dave Dunhill, Director of Information Technology at Pall-Ex, said:

“Crimson were unknown to me before this campaign, but I have worked with other agencies for several years. Crimson took the time to visit us on site, and he had long conversations with me, so they were able to thoroughly articulate the opportunities we were offering to the candidates. Ultimately, Crimson had the best specialist knowledge of the market place, so they were able to deliver good quality people to us faster than the agencies I’ve worked with in the past.”

The Candidate’s Words

Daryl Holman, IT Support Analyst at Pall-Ex, said: “I decided to apply for the position at Pall-Ex because I saw it as an opportunity to up-skill myself. I also knew a few people that worked in the company already, and they told me it was a nice place to work.

“Dave explained the big transformation challenge and told me that this job would be an excellent opportunity to develop my career from the ground level. It was Dave’s vision that made me accept the job.

“During the recruitment process, Crimson always kept in contact. The process ran very smoothly, and they kept me abreast of all the information between interviews.”
